Stormy Kitchen

I like the look and feel of this kitchen it can take a bit of the rustic plus modern.. Maybe we will rethink the stainless steel finish for the benches. The grey flag stone tiles are certainly lookin nice and will contrast nicely with the white walls and pops of colours we are hoping to inject into the interiors.

Fireplaces

Here are some images of the fireplaces we love.

Kitchen Wall

We would like to just have a simple splash back - thinking of some striking Turkish tiles. The remainder of the kitchen wall extending into the readin area will be the old house brick wall painted white. We want it to look and feel a bit like a gallery space as we want our main collection of art (non existent at the moment to be featured along this wall) This will hopefully make the dining area feel a bit more like a special place to be while also creating that easy go feeling we want when entertaining friends and family.

House palette

We both like white and greys keeping to a fairly neutral palette with pops of colour coming through in furnishing or specific areas. In particular we liked Kathyrn Tylers house featured on grand designs recently.

Old Section - Parquetry Floor

To add a contrast to the stone flooring and to give a bit of warmth and age to the older section we are thinking of using parquetry for the hallways, library and family room. The bedrooms will be in a high quality carpet and the wet areas will use the stone flooring used in the new section to provide some linkage.

Marie Antoinette Distressed Grey

866mm x 866mm
Equates to approximately $189.00 per square metre
$145.40
(per panel)

This distressed grey parquetry from Schots looks like it could work in these areas.

Materials for Wallington Project

Flooring for the new section and external areas is to be in either bluestone or travertine in french pattern, or we have already used a travertine look alike tile in a brick pattern which we love and is a lot cheaper. This may provide a more modern look while still retaining a solid rustic feeling. I will post this later once I get the costs and some photos and sizes.

Fireplace

We love the idea of a big open fireplace in the other living room.

Flooring

We will have polished concrete in the old part of the house painted maybe to a soft grey. Int he bedroom a touch wearing carpet under food. The rest of the house I'm thinking either large stone pavers or swedish style broad floor boards to give a sense of space.

Dining Rooms

Looking at some dining rooms - I love the idea of having one long table for entertaining and living. The table can then be used by multiple people in the house at the same time to enjoy their activities. It mustn't be a precious table solid honest and harworking - with great views and lovely natural light.

Kitchen Inspiration

Love these kitchens they are both solild and honest. I love a big kitchen I've decided it is the hub of the house. I have really enjoyed the extra bench space and being able to have the kids sit at a big breakfast bar or central kitchen work bench and do their projects - homework cooking and craft.

Swedish Thoughts

I have been looking at a few Swedish designs lately and I have always loved this style, but more importantly I think it may meet a number of our design objectives for the new house. Gary's sense of the practical, my sense of melding the old with the new, and Emma's design style I think would work really well with this type of styling. Here's some pics to look over....

Ovens Ovens

Started looking around at what's available in ovens. I have always liked the look of the sturdy AGA's and the fact that they can be linked into providing hot water and heat for the house, but I'm not sure how they would work in the Summer for efficiency and secondly as we progress down the age track I want to consider that the design of the kitchen will work as well for us now and it will in our older years. Had a look at the NEFF range and was seriously impressed with the thought that has gone into the design. They are made by Siemens so seriously engineered and are the no 1 seller in the UK and no2 in Germany. Plus for the price of an AGA we could afford 2 ovens including a microwave oven and a serious inbuilt coffee maker with enough money left over for a dishwasher and and sink...not bad. They also offer a free cooking demo on the appliances with a lunch made from the demo a pretty good sales pitch.

Kitchen

I love this look for our kitchen - modern country to a Tee. Love that central bench. Also love EmersonMades open pantry shelving would love to incorporate this one into our design.

Kids Bathroom

I like this idea of keeping it really simple for the kids. Also thinking a door exiting to an external shower place near the pool may be handy for messy children.

Mud Room

I think this idea of a mudroom would be perfect for our new house.
Obviuosly the language of the house will probably lend itself to more of an open shelve scandanavian look but I think adding in a few eclectic pieces will soften and make it feel like home.
